205 Lexington DOB : 1-31-48 Age 48 DOD 1-20-97
On January 20, 1997 three friends were sitting and talking in the home of Larry Triplett when they heard a knock at the door. Larry got up and answered the door. Two men suddenly entered the house and demanded money as they forced the three into the kitchen. Around 9 on that Monday night, a call came into central dispatch. There had been a shooting at 205 Lexington.
When officers arrived, one of Larrys female guests answered the door. She appeared to have been shot in the arm. "They shot them" she said as she pointed to a door. The officers went over, pushed open the door and found two people lying very close together on the kitchen floor. Both were covered with blood from several gun shot wounds. The officers were told the male was Larry Triplett and the other victim was a female friend. Larry was dead, his friend seriously wounded.
Larry Triplett was an employee for Madison County. He worked at the courthouse. Needless to say, when word spread early the next morning, people were shocked. Who could have done this to Larry? Everyone I talked to had nothing but good things to say about the man who had been their co-worker for over ten years. He always had a smile and greeting as he went about his job in maintenance. Some told me that prior to his death he had been excited about winning big in Mississippi at the Casinos. One lady said she had been worried about him because he had been showing off a large roll of money. Was this the reason he was killed?
I talked to some of his friends in the neighborhood, including one of the ladies that was shot and left partially paralyzed. She said, "He would help you in any way he could." She loved her friend and misses him. She couldnt really talk about the details but it was a nightmare that she will live with the rest of her life.
Can you help us bring these men to justice? If you have any information please call the Jackson Police Department at 425-8400 or Crime Stoppers at 424-8477.
*Note On September 26, 2000 at 203 Lexington around 9:00 am, Elvis Triplett, younger brother of Larry Triplett was shot. Unlike his brother he survived and identified his shooter.
