MURDER MYSTERIES OF MADISON COUNTY dn english
Larrica "Reese"McCalister
DOB: 06/30/68 DOD: 06/04/94
On a warm Saturday morning, (June 4, 1994 around 8:00 a.m.) someone on their way to work, driving down a field road off Fiberglass Road, glanced over in a field and saw what they thought was a body. Upon further investigation their thoughts were confirmed. The police were notified and the Madison County Sheriff's Department responded.
The body was identified as Larrica "Reese" McCalister . (Reese was pronounced Ree-sie). Who was Reese McCalister? That's a good question. For two years, she had been a Majorette for the Lane Marching Band. She later dropped out of school and got a job but started running with a fast crowd. Soon she was doing things that went against everything she had been taught by her family.
When her son was born, her mother took care of him on a regular basis. Soon it was decided that he should live with his grandmother permanently. Reese would have periods of time when she attempted to get her life together. This was the case in the fall of 1993. She had been studying the Bible with her great-aunt, going to church and spending more time with her son. That fall, she and her son went to visit her sister, Tonnie. At that time Tonnie was in the service and stationed in Hawaii.
Reece's life seemed to be back on track.
On returning to Jackson, she got her son settled in again with his grandmother.
Then something happened. She returned to her old ways, hanging around with the old crowd. When her sister called to check on her, Reese told her she was scared that she might be killed for what she knew. Even though she was frightened, she had gotten an apartment in Lincoln Courts. That was about to change. With her Mother's help, she was planning to move to Nevada to stay with family friends.
I was told she spent a lot of time at her Mother's house on Middleton, staying over night on many occasions. On the night of June 3, 1994, she had been seen on Middleton near Orchard Street. Several people came forward and said they had seen her in a dark colored truck. A truck fitting that description was seen in the area of the field road, prior to the discovery of her body.
After Reese's death, for the safety of the family, her mother moved away from Jackson. What happened that night in June? Who had threatened Reece? Someone out there knows the answers to these questions. Someone knows who beat and strangled the mother of a three year old child. Can you help?
